Considerations When Shopping For A Poodle: A Standard, A Miniature, or a Toy.

If you're a person who is considering getting a poodle puppy, they are cute as can be, but they are certainly going to give you a lot of work in training them.  In case you think that they appear too cute to be any amount of trouble, it bears repeating that they take an enormous amount of work. 

One has to deal with housebreaking, personality development, dog obedience, and grooming and socializing.  It's great for the dogs first year to spend as much time with it as possible, so that it can acclimate to one's household and the family a lot better.

One thing to keep in mind when you're deciding on whether to get a puppy or an older dog, is that puppies are a lot of work, yet older dogs are less maintenance.  While older dogs certainly need training, they already have things developed such as housebreaking, and personality.  One doesn't have to worry about puppy behavior such as yelping and crying. 

Also, a puppy is extremely expensive because it is so young.  It's going to need constant visits to the vet for health checkups and shots.

It'll probably need a little bit more grooming than an older dog.  If you are a person that feels that as cute as puppies are, that you don't have the energy to time or the money for one, then an  adult poodle would be your best bet. 

You can find one with a rescue shelter, or even possibly by calling an animal kennel club.  Then again, there are always people putting advertisements in the newspaper to sell in an adult poodle.

There are three main sizes of the poodle.  Starting from the smallest there is the toy poodle.  Toy poodles are extremely small, and are great for people that live in studios or apartments.  These are the dogs are people really tight on space and might not have a yard for example.  They can do anything that their larger counterparts can do except for maybe in fetching games. 

Something to keep in mind for those considering getting a Toy poodle, is that they might not be great choices for those with small children.  This is because small children tend not to know their strength and jump and run around a lot.  There is a danger that the Toy poodle could be hurt by a younger child.  Otherwise, these are great dogs to have and they are easy to travel with.

The next larger size is called the miniature poodle.  It's not as tiny as the toy poodle but it's not quite as large as the standard poodle.  This is still a good dog to have in small spaces, but certainly it would appreciate a yard, and it's great to take around the city or the town for long walks. 

It may cost a little bit more in the grooming fees to take care of this dog because it's a little bit larger than the toy, but it's still a great dog that people appreciate having.

Finally there is the standard poodle.  Standard poodles are anywhere from the size of small dogs and medium-size dog.  These are popular show dogs.  With regards to what size of dog and the sex adult, this is totally up to the owner.  It has been said that a certain sex of this dog does well with the opposite sex of humans. 

However, it really depends on the temperament of the dog, and the personality and lifestyle of its owner.
